about time 😊
This website has been a dream of mine to make for years.
When I was a kid, I used to think that owning a personal website (especially with a custom domain) was only reserved for the rich. Back then, I would use weebly.com to make websites for school projects and use wordpress.com for journalling!
Owning your own URL? How cool is that? 😎
Thankfully the barrier of entry to owning a domain has been lowered and is now kind of affordable (with student discounts). Through the years, my interest in robotics has led me to embark on many fun and interesting projects. However, for the longest time, these projects have all been trapped as memories in my head or at best, broken down into words on a resume.
Making a website/portfoliio always fell under the category of “important but not urgent” in my to-do list. When asked about whether it was necessary for internship/job applications, the feedback I got from people would be that it’s a “nice to have but not necessary”. However, I’ve always been irked by the difficulty of being able to visualise engineering projects simply from descriptive words. Sure you could probably get by with a well-worded resume for software engineering, showcasing all the languages and libraries you’re familiar with. But in the fields of mechanical engineering and robotics, visuals speak so much louder than words.
Hence, I finally found made time to create this website to explain more about myself and my background. Knowing me, I’ll spend an obscene amount of time trying to make the website as pretty and readable and objective, but I’m confident that it’ll be all worth while. Within the next year or so, I would love to make time to try out building this website without tools like Squarespace so I could learn some React stuff and save some costs (was actually looking at ways to make Github Pages look 🤩).
If you’ve read this far, give yourself a pat on the back! There’s a good chance that we will vibe well haha. Feel free to drop me a message to say hi! 🙋♂️
Till next time, God bless (:
